Season of Thanksgiving As we move closer to the Thanksgiving holiday,
it is the time to ask what we are we thankful for and how we can express our thanks in appropriate ways. Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration November 23, Holy Name Parish will participate in Many Faiths, One America: An Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration.
I hope many Holy Name parishioners will be able to join others in the Roslindale/West Roxbury community in coming together to pray and express gratitude for many blessings. This Interfaith Thanksgiving celebration will be held at the Bethany First United Methodist Church on Cummins Highway (
directly across from the Washington Irving School) beginning at 3:00pm. Refreshments will follow.Holy Name Parish School Grade Two Students
will have their traditional Thanksgiving meal November 25 at 12:00 noon. I congratulate all the teachers and parents involved in this annual treat. Holy Name Parish School
will have a Thanksgiving Prayer Service in the upper church November 26 at 9:00am. All are invited to join this special service. Thanksgiving Day
Holy Name will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at 8:00am in the upper church. The choir will be present, and as has been done in previous years, a loaf of bread with a Prayer of Thanksgiving will be offered to each family in attendance. You are encouraged to come and BRING A FRIEND.
Youth Ministry Meeting will take place November 18 at 7:00pm in the rectory. If
you are interested in youth ministry or are currently involved in youth activities, you might be particularly interested in attending this meeting. The purpose is to look at what we have in the parish for the
youth, to consider what would be best and possible and to explore what the next step could be. RSVP by calling 617-325-4865 or by emailing holyname.parish@verizon.net. St. Vincent de Paul Food Drive Several people recently have asked about another food drive. It is encouraging to hear people initiate this
effort. As most are aware, the needs are increasing. There will be a St. Vincent de Paul Food Drive next weekend, November 22-23. Your ongoing help truly is appreciated and is a fine expression of "loving your neighbor."
Archdiocesan Bicentennial Closing Mass Next Sunday, November 23, I will be at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross to participate in the closing liturgy for the bicentennial of our Archdiocese.
I invite Holy Name parishioners to consider attending this closing liturgy. The procession will begin at 1:30pm, and the Mass is at 2:00pm. Parking is available at the Flower Exchange on Albany Street.
ARISE Together in Christ
As the six-week spiritual journey for this Archdiocesan Program nears completion, I am excited about the comments made by so many of the participants in the ten small groups. I suspect there will be even more participation and excitement in the next session that starts in Lent.
I am grateful to Sister Anne D'Arcy, CSJ, and Lou Campbell for co-chairing this program and to the ARISE Team who so ably assisted them. Well done! Blessings upon all! Stephanie Budwey, Holy Name Parish Organist, has been serving us so well for nearly four years. She has played for
innumerable weekend Masses, Funerals, Weddings and other special occasions, including Holy Name Parish School Services and Masses. Stephanie is very talented in many areas; she is pursuing her Doctorate at Boston
University and is preparing her dissertation on Marian Hymnody in the USA from 1854 to the Present. Unfortunately for Holy Name, Stephanie has taken on a
new ministry as both Organist and Music Director at a church in Cambridge. She will be starting there in a few weeks. This is her last weekend here, and the choir will be joining in a luncheon for her. Blessings and
peace, Stephanie! Continued on Page 2 |
